On the occasion of the 7th centenary of the death of Dante Alighieri (1321-2021)
I would like to talk to you about this important Italian poet who also played a political role in his city during the controversial medieval struggles between Guelphs and Ghibellines . We will be walking around Florence and imagine how difficult life was during this period, everywhere in the city we will discover corners where the figure of this supreme poet is remembered.
Amongst many events dedicated to Dante, in 2021 Bargello will display a special exhibition from 23rd March to 25th July. However, my tour can start at any time of the year to walk around the city and recall places where the supreme Italian poet lived.
We could combine a visit to the Bargello museum on selected rooms, to admire Donatello, Michelangelo , Giambologna sculptures but also looking at precious artworks dated 13-16th cent that range from Byzantine, Gothic and Renaissance’s majolicas, medals, glassware and much more.
Itinerary:
- Starting point Bargello palace, option a visit to the museum to admire the beautiful Lodge and Courtyard and 13-16th cent collections.
- Badia Fiorentina church visit
- Walking beyond old city walls imagine what Dante must have seen
- Santa Croce Square
- Piazza della Signoria
- Santa Margherita church and places where he lived
- Orsanmichele church
- Piazza Duomo
The tour can be adjusted according to your preferences, it could be up to a full day or a half-day experience.
